Capability Development Programme: Wroclaw, Poland 2012.

Four Polish manufacturing Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) were participating in the first edition of the futureSME Capability Development Programme, which took place in Wroclaw Technology Park in Poland. The Programme was run for 7 days (10-12 January 2012, 6-8 February 2012, 28 February 2012), and consisted of two parts:

  1. Core Programme, together with a company visit (Black Point S.A.)
  2. Operational Excellence Programme.

The companies that participated in the Programme operate in four different sectors:

  • Light Emitting Diodes (LED) lighting
  • Electro-mechanical equipment
  • Products from wood, plastic and metal
  • Food processing

The speakers were members of the futureSME consortium: Prof. Umit S. Bititici and Dr. Derek Little (Strathclyde University, Scotland), Dr. Remigiusz Horbal and Marek Eisler (Lean Enterprise Institute Polska, Poland).

The Core Programme consisted of a Strategic Session, an Introduction to Lean Manufacturing (company visit Black Point S.A.), and a Leadership session. The participants also completed the futureSME Business Diagnostic for their companies. The Operational Excellence programme focused on the identification of key emerging areas in the four companies and how to introduce the appropriate measures to improve them. Based on the findings during the programme, Project Boards for the key emerging areas were created. The boards are to be used to manage changes to the identified areas and to check if the projected results are met.

The Programme was evaluated very high by the participants (see graph below)
